Hi Martin
If you see unreadable characters on the screen when you are connected to the console of any device, this usually means that there is a mismatch in the baud rate settings between what the piece of equipment is putting out and what the terminal/PC/Laptop is configured to accept.
If you play around with the baud rate settings on the terminal/PC/Laptop you should get this sorted and be able to read and use the terminal. If your current baud rate is set to 9600 try both higher and lower settings until the outputted text is readable.
