Hi,
I'm currently learning about switching with my Cisco SF300 small business switch 24 port, I'm looking to then set up VLAN's etc but struggling on obtaining the default IP address.
I bought a 'Console serial cable to Ethernet' cable to plug into the back 'Console' for my switch then to the Ethernet port on my laptop. What would be the best option of obtaining the IP address of my switch to access the web page? From research i found online the default IP address should be '192.168.1.254' but this just redirects to my WiFi router? I have completely reset my switch from previous user therefore the IP address should be back to default (hold down Reset button for at least 10 seconds)
Kind Regards
Jord

3. connect your laptop or pc to switch port(using Ethernet cable) - configure PC DHCP / If no DHCP offering Switch you can configured PC with IP address range from 192.168.1.1/24 with the gateway 192.168.1.254
4. ping to 192.168.1.254, once it is pinging, go to http://192.168.1.254 - if this works

First, on your laptop disable wireless - so it will not connect to your home broadband router.
Do not connect any cables to your new switch, - to your broadband router for now.
1. follow the mentioned document to reset to factory default, so the switch will take some time to reset and boot.
2. you can connect the console cable and see if the booted as expected.
3. connect your laptop or pc to switch port - configure your PC with IP address range from 192.168.1.1
4. ping to 192.168.1.254, once it is pinging, go to http://192.168.1.254 - if this works
follow the quick startup guide :

Connect the console cable and check is the switch booted successfully.
if the IP address not configured you can configure manually
config t
!
interface vlan 1
ip address x.y.z.z/24
!

The green power light is still just flashing green.
No cables plugged in except the power cable & console cable.

Hi
Queries:
-Are you using an ethernet cable between the switch and your PC?
-Once connected, have you tried to leave your PC to receive DHCP addressing?
-If DHCP is successful, what range of addresses does it give you?

Hi,
I'm using a Serial to Ethernet Console cable.
So you're suggesting using an Ethernet cable from my switch to my laptop then doing ipconfig /all?
Kind Regards
Jord
