Hi Cisco Experts,

I have an issue that in Cisco 3750 Switch, that Voice VLAN 800 for IP Phones is working on interface Fastethernet port but not working on gigabitethernet port(no lights on IP Phones via POE). Only the Data VLAN is working on Gigabitethernet port but not for Voice VLAN 800. Please see below config. Is there any way to make this work?

Hi,

It may be that the phones are not gig (only 100mb). If the phones are gig, can you remove "speed 1000" and let the interface negotiate and test again?

Hi Erwin,

That is correct. Your phones are older and support only 10/100Mb and not gig. So, it is up to you and your budget if you want to purchases newer phones with Gig capabilities but 100Mb phones usually work just fine.

Hi Reza,

I purchased an Cisco IP Phone 6945 - which is said on the link below has a gigabit Ethernet connection on it. Still, after I plugin to interface gigabitport the IP Phone 6945 still not working(no light). I am not sure what other issue is. I also shutdown and no shut the gig port - still same result and not working.

do you know the reason why still not working?

Did you try removing the speed command on the port? I'm also wondering if the newer phone is requesting more power than the port can provide.

BTW, even a g.711 VoIP call only uses about 100 Kbps. The reason to use a phone with a gig port is to support a downstream PC, at gig (although sometimes the VoIP phone can be a bottleneck - we discovered some early Cisco phones with 10/100 ports couldn't actually handle 100 Mbps to/from a downstream PC).

Hi Joseph,

Yes, I tried the following:
1. I changed the interface gig 2/0/3 speed from 1000 to 100. Still phone no link light.
2. Shutdown and No Shutdown the int gig 2/0/3. Still no link light on cisco IP Phone 6945.
3. the remove the current config to default config and put only the VLAN for Data(101 and VLAN for Voice(800). No link Light. Not sure why it is not working. But, on Cisco Switch 2960s on Gig port it is the Cisco Phone is working fine.

What is the exact model of your switch? Usually if a switch has 100 and 1000 Mbps ports, the 100 are for access and will have POE and the 1000 ports are for uplink only, and thus will not be POE.

Show the results of the following commands also:

show ip inter brief

show power inline

Looks to be as Mikeleebria mentioned, gig uplink ports aren't PoE.

If that's the issue, either you need to use one of the 10/100 ports or use a power injector.

The results of "sh power inline" reveal that your GIG ports are not PoE. This is the root cause of your issue. You have the following options.

1. Use the 100 ports that provide power

2. Use the GIG ports and use an inline power injector.

3. Use the GIG ports and use a power adapter plugged directly into the phone.

Hi Mike,

I tried to use a Power Injector. Phone got power & Lights on. Also got a 1G Connection on my Laptop. But the Cisco IP Phone 6945(has Gig Features) is not registering the phone to our Cisco Call Manager 9.1.1 and Status is REJECTED.

Do you know the reason why the Cisco Phone 6945 is Rejected from the Cisco Call Manager?

where are you seeing the rejected message? on the phone or in CUCM?

Usually a rejected status means that the phone is not configured at all CUCM (if auto-registration is disabled), or the phone was created in CUCM with the incorrect phone type.

It could also be a certificate issue on the phone. Perform a factory reset on the phone to clear any cashed config or certificates it may have.

Hi Mike,

The rejected status is on CUCM. Mostly our Cisco Phone here are 6941 but I am using Cisco 6945 because it has a gig features on it.

I already tried a Factory Reset by Holding the # then press 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,*,0,#

Do you know other way to make this work on our CUCM?

The physical phone and the phone type in CUCM must match. As mentioned previously, them not matching is usually the cause of a rejected status. Are they both 6945?
