Hello,
i purched a cisco Catalyst 3560-CG that is powered by 2960POE switch. my compact switch powers fine but the ports G0/1-8 don't communicate with either POE devises nor a regular computer. i pulled the following information for help diagnose the problem:

I did hard code the speed and duplex on a port and still nothing!!!!
I never asked you to hard-code speed and duplex. I am asking you to run a Layer 1 diagnostics, called TDR.

rehello to all, happy holidays and new year,
for the discution i couldn't find any problem at the layer one but if there is a dignostique that i can run that would be great. just to let you know i have a cables RJ45 category 7 indestriel plugued in, tried three different switchs and tried a few computers without any results.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions on this matter

I've already mentioned it TWICE. Run a TDR to determine if you have a cable issue or not.

Hello i finally run the TDR on my switch and got the following results:
Switch#sh cable-diagnostics tdr interface gigabitEthernet 0/1
TDR test last run on: March 01 00:15:17
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi0/1 100M Pair A N/A N/A Not Completed
Pair B N/A N/A Not Completed
Pair C N/A N/A Not Completed
Pair D N/A N/A Not Completed
Switch#sh cable-diagnostics tdr interface gigabitEthernet 0/10
TDR test last run on: March 01 00:08:51
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi0/10 100M Pair A N/A Pair A Normal
Pair B N/A Pair B Normal
Pair C 55 +/- 10 meters Pair C Short
Pair D 54 +/- 10 meters Pair D Short
this is knowing that i am drowing in power from the Gi0/10 and my computer is connected to the Gi0/1

Just saw this result today.
G0/10 will NEVER negotiate to 1 Gbps because Pair "D", which controls GigabitEthernet, is "short". You have a cable issue.
I can't determine G0/1 because the result is "Not Completed". You may need to run the test again.

The 3560CPD requires a PoE+ or higher power source, PoE won't cut it. The 2960CPD will work with PoE or higher.
