Compact switch 3560CG CPD - Interfaces down when NOT powered with power brick

Hi folks,

I encounter a (very) strange behaviour with two compact switches 3560 CPD (WS-C3560CPD-8PT-S). Both are from the same batch, and have a serial starting by 'FOC1848xxxx'. They were purchased used. What I want is that devices are powered by their interfaces G0/9 & G0/10. We could expect that it works, but:

  • If devices are powered with PoE+ uplinks (30W each), they powers up (pretty obvious), but interfaces G0/1 - 8 remain desesperately down ...
  • When devices are powered with a power brick (w/ or w/o PoE on G0/9 and G0/10), then interface(s) come up...

Here's below what I get from CLI, device(s) being powered by a 3560X-24P-S (PoE+, hence 30W per port), with and without brick:

C3560C#sh env all
(...)

PoE Power - Available:15.4(w) Backup:15.4(w)

Power Source Type Power(w) Mode
-------------- -------------- --------- ---------
A.C. Input Auxilliary 51(w) Available
Gi0/9 Type2 30(w) Back-up
Gi0/10 Type2 30(w) Back-up

(...)

Or, without brick:

C3560C#sh env all
(...)

PoE Power - Available:15.4(w) Backup:0.0(w)

Power Source Type Power(w) Mode
-------------- -------------- --------- ---------
Gi0/9 Type2 30(w) Available
Gi0/10 Type2 30(w) Available

Of course, I have tried PoE powering with other devices, without any improvement (a 2960 PoE, and a 3560 compact PoE).

What I want is to power these devices without any power brick, in a remote location. So, if ever you have any idea, it is very welcome - since I'm really stuck on that behaviour.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Bump!

I know that this is a very strange behaviour, but if someone (a Cisco representative, maybe ?) has an idea, this would be welcome.

Thanks!

Bump again :)

Thanks!

Bump again. Do I have to turn to Aruba devices instead of Cisco ?

William,

I have the same issue with this device and its not clear why...Did you ever get an answer?
