Configure router for internal DNS

i bought the 871W router for a small office. i used the Cisco Configuration Professional (CP) to configure it.

the following details have been entered:

external IP and subnet, allocated by the office admins

"next hop" as the external gateway, also assigned by the office admins

i also entered the 2 external DNS servers, assigned by office admins

an internal 192.168.0.0/24 IP range was setup that was set the name Vlan1. this NAT's the external traffic

the wireless lan was set to bridge with the above, interface name BVI1, which then replaced the config when checking the running config

in the local DHCP allocations, i set the IP of this router as both gateway and DNS IP addresses for client PC's (all windows in a workgroup)

i also added in 1 of the above external IP addresses too.

--

on a client PC, they are able to browse the internet.

if i remove the external IP from DNS it cant, so i know there are problems with my DNS config

i also tried this from windows command prompt

nslookup

server 192.168.0.254

hostname

they all return "non existent domain" for internal names. externals seem to resolve!

is my router dns config wrong? do i need to config anything else? is it because some of the pc's are in different workgroups? (though i have tried putting them in the same workgroup with no luck)

can anyone help please?

Hi,

post the configuration here.

thanks for the reply, javi.

in fact, the config i setup using CCP as a standard site-to-site VPN were correct, but as i was currently connected via an Easy Server VPN to the remote site already when i tried to test the connection setup from my local laptop, it failed. i presume this is because the Easy Server VPN applies different settings or ACLs than someone on the internal LAN at the same site.

when i logged onto CLI of the remote office and did an extended ping from this, using the internal interface IP, i got the expected results. further testing with 2 PC's on each network were also conclusive.

cheers for getting back to me though
