Configuring HSRP on 4507 and 4506 switches

Can we configure HSRP for LAN core high availability on the Cisco WS-C4507RE-S7L-96 (Primary switch with universal crypto image) & Cisco WS-C4506E-S7L-96 (secondary switch with universal image).

Yes, the switches do not need to be the same chassis.

In fact with HSRP you can use completely different models of switches if you wanted to.

To extend what Jon has described, basically as long as the two devices support a compatible version of HSRP (or GLBP or VRRP), the hardware of those devices doesn't matter.

What is the License level on these, I think you may need the ip base license on it to configure HSRP.

Share me a sh ver from both.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Madhu

Please find the below sh version from both the switches

HI,

Agree with other experts view on this.

1- you dont require to have the same model/version to run the HSRP.

2- From my point of view you should be good to run the HSRP between these devices.

3- Please go ahead and configure the same and let us know in case if you face any problem and we will help you on the same.

Hi Inayath,

I have not tested this, but are you saying LAN Base support HSRP.

I just looked at the feature navigator, i did not see HSRP. Also looking at the below

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_26675-01.pdf

It says you need IP BASE. Just curious to see you experienced this before or tested it?

Thanks,

Madhu.

Madhu,

I overlooked it and didnt see the other one.

1st one.:-License Information for 'WS-X45-SUP7L-E'
    License Level: ipbase   Type: Permanent
Next reboot license Level: ipbase >>> didnt look at the other one.

Thanks for pointing. Yes it does need min IP Base to run the HSRP.

Regards

Inayath
