Connecting 2 switches

Hey, 

I am trying to connect 2 switches in this topology  

However, it doesn't seem to be working, when i try to set the IP address, it responds with the following: 

I am able to ping all the other devices excepts the ones that need to be accessed through these switches, can somebody tell me what seems to be the mistake that I have made and how I can solve it?

Adding IP on Layer2 switches is possible two ways: 1. add IP to SVI , aka Interface VLan x , where you must have vlan x in database. 2. add to port x/y after adding no switchport command.  no switchport command turns L2 switchport (default) into L3 switchport.
