Hi there,
I am new to fiber optic, and I understand if two SFPs are close to each other you would need a attenuator device. I have got two cabinets which are adjacent to each other. In one I have IE-3400-8T2S-A (L3) and in the other I have IE2000-8TC-G-B (L2). Basically my L3 switch is connected to Fiber provider connection and then connects my field devices via the L2 switch. wondering if I can use the SFP ports of L3 switch to connect to L2 switch.
Thanks

Hello,
Although not familiar with the 3400 and 2000 series switch families, if they are like other Cisco switches, SFP ports can be configured as L2 or L3, and the fact that they are SFP should not make any difference. As far as distance and attenuation is concerned, unless you're using extra long range SFPs (over 10km range) you'll should be OK without attenuation.
Hope this helps.
