Connectivity to the Internet via dhcp router

Hello

I have a 1800 router and have configured dhcp client on the interface connected to the Internet. This basically gives out ip addresses which are private.

I have another interface configured with two subinterfaces 192.168.247.0/24 and 10.128.0.0/24. Normally I just the wall socket to my laptop for Internet connectivity. This has proxy settings so I use automatically detect settings on the browser. I am using the router because I need to register the Websense appliance and it requires Internet connectivity.

I am configuring network address translation from these two networks to the dhcp interface address. I configured the following

ip NAT outside - dhcp interface

Ip NAT inside on both the subinterfaces

access-list 7 permit 192.168.247.0 0.0.0.255

access-list 7 permit 10.128.0.0 0.0.0.255

ip NAT inside source-list 7 interface overload

Configured an access-list to allow everything from the two networks to anywhere. There is also a default route that points to the gateway of the dhcp interface

Now when I make these changes I can ping the Internet addresses and dns names from the router and can only ping the Internet addresses from laptops connected to the above two networks. I cannot browse any Internet sites even though I have the default proxy settings.

What else do I need to configure on the router to make this work? Anything that will allow web to work. I sm getting all sorts of translation happening from some servers such as ports 50900 etc but no luck when I sm trying to register the appliance or do basictests like pinging Internet hostnsmes like yahoo.com

Not entirely sure of your problem. If you test with ping and you can only ping IP addresses and not names from your laptop then you need to check the DNS settings on your laptop. Note that for ping at least the proxy settings are irrelevant because ping does not use a proxy.

So if the router is handing out IPs via DHCP then under the DHCP config you need to add a valid DNS server so your laptop can resolve names.

Aren't these 2 sentences a little bit contradictory or else what do you mean by dns names?
