COS on 2960 Switches

I currently have 4 2960-48TT-L switches operating at a location. That location has implemented a Polycomm Video Conferencing System. We wish to implement COS on the LAN for the polycomm traffic. The switches have the LANBASE-M software and the software version is 12.2(35)SE5. I would think the first step would be to get the switch software to the newest level of 12.2(50)SE3. Is this the correct thinking? I have never configured COS on the LAN side (only the WAN side on routers) any help or documentation showing how to configure the COS on the switches would appreicated. What are some of the limitations and "gotchas" I should be aware of?

Hello Doug,

QoS chapter in config guide can be a good starting point with an explanation of QoS on switches.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_46_se/configuration/guide/swqos.html

or

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_46_se/configuration/guide/swqos.html

With switches you need to take care of the trust concept and to consider that the device uses an internal DSCP.

On outgoing ports DSCPs are mapped to CoS values and then CoS values are mapped to output queues.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
