Hi everybody,
I have a ME 6524 (ME-C6524GT-8S) and I need to connect it to an ASR 1002 using a GigaEth copper link. I still have some unused dowlink port (these are 10/100/1000 ports) but I haven't any SFP available in the uplink ports; so I wondering if there is any reason to equip an uplink port with a new SFP instead of using an available downlink port. Anybody can help me?
Thanks,
enrico

Hi,
You can certainly use one of the copper ports if you don't want to purchase the SFP and the distance between the 2 devices is less than 100 meters.

Thx Sharif, but are you aware of any difference between downlink ports and uplink ports ? Why Cisco distinguish between them if they are all the same ? I suppose that some difference is hide in the switch architecture but I can't find many information . The only document I found is here http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/me-6524-gs-ethernet-switch/product_data_sheet0900aecd8040657e.html
Difference are listed in Table 3

Downlink ports are none line rate. Oversubscription 3:1.
