Difference Between VACL & PVLAN's

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could clear something up for me.

Is there much difference between a VACL and Private VLAN's? I understand that a VACL is more flexible in the sense you can permit traffic to some hosts within a VLAN and not others, but does it go any further than that? As far as i can gather from my studies, a private VLAN stops all communication within a VLAN unless it goes via the promiscuous port.

Any help appreciated!

Kind regards,

Oli

Hi

Actually there are differences between the protocols, for example:

VACL is a mechanism in order to be applied to allow or deny access to specific destination, it will involve specific hosts included on the VLAN or the entire VLAN.

PVLAN, is totally different because it is usually used in order to avoid communication or isolation between hosts of the same network segment, it cannot be achieved using VACL.

Hope it is useful

:-)
