Not exactly same thing;  You cannot create SVI on servers but you can group 2 or more NICs together (teaming or bundling) and assign IP address to that new virtual NIC. I forgot what they call exactly; something like teaming or bundle or grouping NICs.  The purpose here is to have more throughput over 2 NICs instead of just 1 and/or have physical backup connection.

SVIs are switched virtual interface for switches; you can find some definition like "A Switched Virtual Interface (SVI) is routed interface in IOS representing the IP addressing space for particular VLAN connected to this interface."  This means in order to route traffic between VLANs on a switch (L2 vlans do network segmentation and separate broadcast domain), you will need a virtual interface for each of your VLANs on that switch. Also, everyone on vlan x will use interface SVI x to get out and reach remote network.  Not sure if SVI is term that Cisco came out; probably they did, which would mean SVI term is restricted to IOS and switches only.

Now, that being said, we have new Data center and new virtualization technologies which may have their own use and definitions for virtual IPs.
