Does a 4510R+E with dual Sup8s support 8 WS-X4648-RJ45V+E Blades

We just purchased a 4510R+E with dual supervisors 8-E.

When we insert one WS-X4648-RJ45V+E blade in the 10th slot, it says Unsupported.

Can I have 8 of these blades in the above configuration?

Thanks,

Scott

Having 8 blades should not be an issue.

Do you have a large enough power supply?

Try upgrading the firmware first.  3.3.0 is pretty old.

Do I need to upgrade to the latest XO code, or can I go to a different one?

For stability purposes, stick with the latest 3.6.X.

So, I see a couple of issues with this switch config

#1 Configuration register is 0x2101

The above should be 2101. So, you can change it and reboot

config t

config-register 0x2102

exit and save config

#2 5 Standby Supervisor RPR Standby cold
6 Active Supervisor RPR Active

The sups should be in SSO mode and RPR.

So, configure SSO

config t

redundancy

mode sso

exit and save.

You now should reboot the whole chassis and hopefully, everything works as expected.

After the reboot, post the output of "sh red"

We have decided not do to redundant supervisors in this switch.
I have upgraded the IOS of the SUP8-E to 3.6.8. The tenth slot still says unsupported. All the documentation says that all ports can be used for the 4648 blade.
Why does it still say unsupported?

This maybe your issue

We are using a 4510R+E chassis with 4648-RJ45V+E Blades. Table 2 doesn't apply.

Try opening a ticket with Cisco TAC and see if they have any suggestions.

I found the answer. I had to disable 4 of the 8 10gig SFP ports on the sup. That did it.

That was part of my earlier post

Engine 8-E when the uplink mode is 80GB, and is supported only when uplink mode is set to 40GB.
