Hi,

Does anyone know the MMRP or MVRP control protocols?

- The MMRP protocol is for distribution of group (multicast ) information.

- The MVRP protocol is for distribution and registration of VLAN information.

Is it used, have you already used this ?

Hello hostettle,

in Cisco switches world the proprietary VTP is more used (when it is used !).

>> MVRP (Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol) is the counterpart protocol of Cisco VTP and GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol). It is the last standard VLAN Registration Protocol, so it has richer properties than the other protocols. MVRP is the IEEE 801.ak standard.

MVRP  can be interesting in a multivendor environment if all devices support it.

And would be intesting to compare it with VTP version 3.

Yes, there are many , i am one among them :).

I have worked on MMRP and MVRP protocols and integrated in ZebOS. you may read about ZebOS.

Simplest way to understand the MxRP; If an administrator wants to configures a vlan he just need to configure in one node in the network and other node should have MMRP/MVRP enabled , all the nodes will learn the configuration and configure itself using MVRP, the admin need not to login to each node(switch) and configure the port for MAC/VLAN.  IF you are interested to know how it works we can discuss in a different thread.
