Dot1Q VLAN Tagging in WAN Circuit

Hi,

One of our customer has ordered an Ethernet WAN circuit for MPLS access. The access circuit is an aggregate Ethernet circuit on the Provider side, meaning a single trunk carries traffic of multiple customers, with each customer assigned a VLAN. As per the carrier, the VLAN tagging that should be set on the WAN interface is 2980 (encapsulation dot1q 2980). This is configured on the CE side as well as the PE side. However, the last mile supplier whose switch the WAN interface is connecting, is saying their switch port is configured as an access port and what VLAN is configured does not matter. If the access supplier switch is configured as an access port with a different VLAN (not 2980), will the VLAN tagging be sent across end to end?

Thanks for your time

Gnanavel.

Perhaps it is an access point in vlan2980.  Just because it is an access point doesn't mean it is using vlan1.
