Doubt about Sup-bootflash in 6500 SUP720? Redundancy.

Dear Mister

I have the bext problem. I put a second supervisor in a 6509. When I put the supervisor, this message is show:

00:01:54: %PFREDUN-SP-4-BOOTSTRING_INVALID: The bootfile slavesup-bootflash: is
not present in standby

What it `s means??

Also, ib the original supervisor, i did the command "show sup-bootflash:all" and the next is show:

------------------ show sup-bootflash: all ------------------

-#- ED ----type---- --crc--- -seek-- nlen -length- ---------date/time--------- name

1   .. image        9BD41DAD 2BDE6D4   30 45475412 Oct 27 2007 05:36:34 -03:00 s72033-psv-mz.122-18.SXD7b.bin

20060460 bytes available (45475540 bytes used)

But, when I did the similar command in the redundant , this is showed:

BKBN-LGV#dir slavesup-bootflash:
%Error opening slavesup-bootflash:/ (No such device)

I put the last car alone  (standby like active), and the next is show:

Router#dir sup-bootflash:
%Error opening sup-bootflash:/ (Bad device info block)

And , in the "show version"appear the next:

System image file is "sup-bootflash:s72033-psv-mz.122-18.SXD7b.bin"

Who understand that.

I need somehelp, because I am confuse. Any link when explian this is didactic mode :-), help , so much.

Best Regards

Re: Doubt about Sup-bootflash in 6500 SUP720? Redundancy.

Hi Rodrigo,

But, when I did the similar command in the redundant , this is showed:

BKBN-LGV#dir slavesup-bootflash:
%Error opening slavesup-bootflash:/ (No such device)'

This command needs to be done on the CLI of the active supervisor only (in case you are doing it on standby console).

00:01:54: %PFREDUN-SP-4-BOOTSTRING_INVALID: The bootfile slavesup-bootflash: is
not present in standby

This means that the image is present in the bootflash of the active supervisor but not on the standby supervisor. Please capture 'show file system' on the active supervisor and check the available memories you have on both the supervisors.

Shashank

Re: Doubt about Sup-bootflash in 6500 SUP720? Redundancy.

Hello Rodrigo,

The error mssg is related to redundancy, as you see show slavesup-boo---- is the location of sup-bootflash on the standby, which is either corupt or damaged. Hence, The device cannot have any redundancy.....

I will update you with more info when i get back to my laptop.. I hate typing on iphone..

Re: Doubt about Sup-bootflash in 6500 SUP720? Redundancy.

Hi,

Yes, you need to do show slavesup-bootflash from the active  SUP. In case if you do not have the image, please copy the image. in case if you keep getting the same error message, you have HW issue there.

%PFREDUN-4-BOOTSTRING_INVALID (x1): The bootfile [chars] is not present in
standby

Explanation: This message indicates that the bootfile that is configured is not
present on the redundant supervisor engine. If the redundant supervisor  engine
resets, it will not come up because it will not find the image specified  in the
bootstring.

I hope that helps.

REgards,

Thanks Mister

But that card is not bad.

Curiosly, when I use the card alone, in Active state, this happen :

But, if i did the next command:

Router#show sup-bootflash:

Open device bootflash failed (Bad device info block)
(Try device DISK: for ATA media.)

This card has the next show module:

Router#show module
Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.

When the SW is 8.5(2) don´t recognize the sup-bootflash, but, is recognized at the start, by that reason the card is functioning (see the black words in show version").

With another SW (8.1(3) OR 8.4(2), this not happen.

That will be the reason???

hi do you still have the issue?

Its probably caused by the fact your IOS is too old to recognize 256MB of flash:

Upgrade to recent IOS and it will be fixed
