dual 6504 and packet processing

I have 2 6504's with sup32 and a copper gig ports on the DFC. I have a Layer 2 connection between the 2 6504?s on the DFC. I have 2 servers one off each 6504 that need to talk to each other. So the packet flow should go?.Server A to 6504A to layer 2 connection to 6504B to serverB located off same card. My question is when serverA sends the packet to its link on the 6504A destened for serverB off 6504B it is set up to go accross the layer2 link between the 2 6504's on the same card as the links to the servers. I am wondering if when the packed hits the card on the 6504 will it have to process the packet on the sup32 back down to the same card out the layer2 link to the other 6504, or will it hit that card see the mac of the server and not be processed by the sup32?

Chris,

You both the chassis have DFC euipped modules or only one chassis has that?

Anyways,If you have a DFC installed on the line card it will download the L2 and L3 tables on it self and do the local re-writing of the packets. If you have a L2 link between the two chasis, DFC will do the local look up of the frames and will send them directly to outgoing interface without talking to Sup32.The traffic will not be processed by the Sup32 incase of a DFC installed. However, there could be some situation where the frames might hit the Sup32 for processing.

HTH,Please rate if it does.
