EHWIC-4ESG in 1941 router issue

Hi

EHWIC-4ESG

I have a Cisco 1941 and a ehwic-4esg module .

I am able to see it if i do the sh inv command :

NAME: "CISCO1941/K9 chassis", DESCR: "CISCO1941/K9 chassis"

PID: CISCO1941/K9      , VID: V04 , SN: FGL161121FM

NAME: "4 Port GE Non-POE EHWIC Switch on Slot 0 SubSlot 0", DESCR: "4 Port GE Non-POE EHWIC Switch"

PID: EHWIC-4ESG        , VID: V01 , SN: FOC16092HNM

NAME: "ADSL over POTS on Slot 0 SubSlot 1", DESCR: "ADSL over POTS"

PID: HWIC-1ADSL        , VID: V01 , SN: FOC16103NR6

NAME: "C1941/C2901 AC Power Supply", DESCR: "C1941/C2901 AC Power Supply"

PID: PWR-1941-2901-AC  , VID:    , SN:

I am not able to see or configure any of the interfaces that should be there when this card is installed :

Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol

Embedded-Service-Engine0/0 unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

GigabitEthernet0/0         unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

GigabitEthernet0/1         unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

ATM0/1/0                   unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

I have also changed the IOS and that did not resolve the problem.

I have two routers and same cards both doing the same thing (both brand new).

We have several other sites with the same topology and they are running without any issues.

Any one know what to do ?

Thank you and kind regards

Arne Swanepoel

Hey, I have this problem too!  Only difference is this is two years later and I'm on a 3945 ISR.  We just got the EHWIC-4ESG overnighted to us, plugged it in (after turning off power of course) turned it back on and it shows up in show inventory and show diag but  no interfaces actually show up.  I checked the IOS and the version should be fine: 15.1(4)M.  I've been searching all over for an answer, I left a message with the vendor and hope to hear back tomorrow.  Really bad timing since it was overnighted.. of course we need it working immediately.  Little set back but oh well... wish it just worked.

Could this be a license issue?  what should I see in the license info for this to work?  Man... I really hope this isn't a money grubbing license issue after decades of not having to deal with such... unnice things.

At this point based on what I've read online, I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue and will have to RMA with the vendor but if anyone has other ideas or maybe some other show output that might help me I'd appreciate it.  thanks!

Hi, I'm having this problem with a 1921/K9 and a 2921/K9, both ISR G2. Have you found a solution in these past years? If so, which one? Thank you very much. Best regards

Would you post the output of show version and of show inventory and of show ip interface brief

HTH

Rick

Hi Richard!

The difference here is I have a Cisco 2921/K9 router. I've changed the EHWIC to other slot's and problem is the same. I've tried also in a Cisco 1921/K9 and the same...

Thanks in advance.

There is the output as you asked:

I note that we do see the EHWIC in show inventory but do not see it in show version. Would you establish a connection to the console, make sure that console logging is set to level debugging, power down and then power up, and post all of the console messages in the boot process?

I did some searching and found this discussion which suggests that it may be a faulty EHWIC and should be RMAd.
