Etherchannel and STP port cost

Unfortunately, I have no access to a lab setup for a couple of days, hence the question rather than trying it myself.

I have 2 core switches (A and B), with a 4948 configured with two etherchannels, one to each Core, with Core A being the root bridge. Each etherchannel has 2x 1GB links. STP currently has traffic flowing across the primary etherchannel from the 4948 to Core A.

If one of the physical 1GB links between the 4948 and Core A fails, will STP recalculate the Etherchannel port cost, and hence cause traffic to go via the backup Etherchannel to Core B? If not, is there any way to make it do this? I'm assumming that by leaving STP port costs to the default, the Etherchannel port cost would calculate by the total link speed?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Cisco Catalyst 4xxx platforms running IOS will recalculate the spanning-tree cost, when a port-channel member link goes down.
