Hi,
I have a WS-C4506 which is acting as a core switch on my LAN, and have two downlinks to a new Catalyst 2960S, I'm trying to create an etherchannel between them and have configured channel group 7 on the 4506 as it support 64 port channels on it, and I have used this number as I already have channels 1-6 in use to other switches. When I configure the Port channel on the 2960 it only lets me choose between 1-6, if I choose and configure everything for channel 1 on the 2960 the etherchannel never comes up as there is a channel mismatch, do any of you guys can recommend a workaround for this?

Hi,
You must have identical interface configurations.

4506 supports 64 etherchannels and 2960 supports eight as per documentation.
For a channel to come up, there are many parameters that should be identical. All LAN ports in each EtherChannel must be the same speed, and you must configure all the ports as either Layer 2 or Layer 3 LAN ports.
Please refer to this link and make sure that everything criteria is met:

If trying all the above doesnt help, then please post the configs from both the ends.
Cheers

Hi,
Pls refer the etherchannel configuration guidelines section in the below link
The number of EtherChannels is limited to six in 2960S switches.
since we have etherchannels 1-6 already, when we create etherchannel with a number 1 we are seeing channel mismatch.
Choose the etherchannel no between 1-6 for configuring the etherchannel between 4506 & 2960S since we have a limitation of 6 etherchannels in 2960s switch.
Hope this helps
Cheers
