Etherchannel connected to the Server is down

Hello,

Two ports in C3560E are grouped together in "active" mode.

These ports are connected to a EMC server.

When I type as below, the channel is in SD mode.

The Server admin told me that this is normal behavior since one port is active and the other is in standby mode

of which are teamed together.

I am not convinced about his comment...can anyone confirm if he is speaking the truth?

=====================================================================================

Switch#show etherchannel summ

...

Number of channel-groups in use: 1
Number of aggregators:           1

Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports
------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------
1      Po5(SD)         LACP      Gi0/33(I)   Gi0/34(I)

Thank you in advance

Hello, from the 3560's point of view, the two links have not been bundled to the other side and then it reports the (SD) which means that the Layer 2 is down. (for the port-channel itself)

Bilal-6500-Test#show etherchannel summary

Flags:  D - down        P - bundled in port-channel

        I - stand-alone s - suspended

        H - Hot-standby (LACP only)

        R - Layer3      S - Layer2

U - in use      f - failed to allocate aggregator

M - not in use, minimum links not met

        u - unsuitable for bundling

w - waiting to be aggregated

        d - default port

Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports

------+-------------+-----------+-----------------------------------------------

10     Po10(SD)        LACP      Gi1/0/2(I)  Gi2/0/2(I)

Even though both nics may seem to be 'up' they are being treated as stand-alone (which is the ''I'' in red) since the other side has not been bundled. LACP would have negotiated if things were set up the same on both sides.

Hope this helps.

Hello-

Please make sure the server is teamed and the corresponding ports are are also set to the same link aggregation

.

For L2 etherchannel - best practice.

1)Config default physical interfaces involved
2) Assign channel-group and channel-group number on the physical interfaces
on let port-channel be created automatically

3)create trunking encapsulation directly in port-channel interface config mode
4)reset physical interfaces "shut" "no shut"
