Hi All,

Please help me out with this. We have different Vlan configured in my setup in office. While pinging a IP i found out that its giving intermittent error, as shown below.

1) ping 10.128.203.102 repeat 100

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.128.203.102, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!.!!!!!!!.!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!.
Success rate is 85 percent (53/62), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/3/8 ms

2) ping 10.128.203.69 repeat 100

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.128.203.69, timeout is 2 seconds:
.!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!!!.
Success rate is 84 percent (39/46), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/2/12 ms

3) ping 10.128.203.72 repeat 100

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.128.203.72, timeout is 2 seconds:
.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.
Success rate is 82 percent (32/39), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/2/4 ms

But while pinging the default gateway it does not give any error.

Can someone help me out with this issue and can tell me how to troubleshoot it?

Any reply will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ayush

Can you provide us one or two port configuration examples where these IPs are plugged in?  Are they on a blade on the 4500?  Are they on another switch that is trunked?

Hi,

Thanks for taking interest, they are connected on different switch which has Cat OS installed. The version of the switch is

WS-C4506 Software, Version NmpSW: 8.4(11)GLX

Below are the few port configuration details as you asked.

1)

set vlan 103  2/2-3,2/6,2/8-9,2/11-12,2/14,2/17-18,2/20,2/22,2/36
set port auxiliaryvlan 2/8 203
set trunk 2/8  off dot1q 1-1005,1025-4094
set spantree portinstancepri 2/8  0 mst
set spantree portinstancecost 2/8  cost 199999 mst
set spantree portvlanpri 2/8  0
set spantree portvlancost 2/8  cost 18

2)

set vlan 103  6/13,6/15,6/20,6/26
set port auxiliaryvlan 6/26 203
set trunk 6/26 auto dot1q 1-1005,1025-4094
set spantree portinstancepri 6/26 0 mst
set spantree portinstancecost 6/26 cost 199999 mst
set spantree portvlanpri 6/26 0
set spantree portvlancost 6/26 cost 18

3)

set vlan 101  3/14,3/19-20,3/22,3/28,3/30-33,3/35,3/37,3/41
set port auxiliaryvlan 3/22 203
set trunk 3/22 off dot1q 1-1005,1025-4094
set spantree portinstancepri 3/22 0 mst
set spantree portinstancecost 3/22 cost 199999 mst
set spantree portvlanpri 3/22 0
set spantree portvlancost 3/22 cost 18

The configuration for this VLAN is as follows:

interface Vlan203
  ip address 10.128.203.3 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.128.3.2
no ip redirects
standby 203 ip 10.128.203.1
standby 203 preempt
end

Hope this will help. Let me know if you need something more also.

Ayush

Can you post topology along with some ip description and port speeds ?

i have seen this similar issue in two cases only :-

1> stp loop

2> speed mismatch ( sometimes you need to hardcode speed and duplex ) as the device can not process traffic at the speed it is recieving { the most likely case }.

Thanks

Manish
