Hello,

I had a situation where stack of two 9300 switches was upgraded from 16.06.03 to 16.06.05 and it couldn't boot up properly.

The upgrade procedure was always the same, place the new image on USB flash and run command request platform software and so on. The upgrade completed sucesfully and the switches was restarted but couldn't boot up new image.

I'm looking for explanation what happened.

Take a look for the content of the packages_conf file. Why rp_boot process was not upgrade to the new version?

boot  rp 0 0   rp_boot         cat9k-rpboot.16.06.03.SPA.pkg

iso   rp 0 0   rp_base         cat9k-rpbase.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   rp_daemons      cat9k-rpbase.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   rp_iosd         cat9k-rpbase.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   rp_security     cat9k-rpbase.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   rp_webui        cat9k-webui.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   rp_wlc          cat9k-wlc.16.06.05.SPA.pkg
iso   rp 0 0   srdriver        cat9k-srdriver.16.06.05.SPA.pkg

I don't see packages.conf file.

Hi,

Post the complete output to the command "dir flash-1:".

Hello,

on a side note, did you clean the flash before upgrading ? Not sure if this causes the behavior you describe...

Switch#request platform software package clean switch all

Hello,

The strange thing was that the last step of upgrade was delete the old soft
packages. I didn't see that on 3850 platform before.

The next strange thing it was that ROMMON shows the old packeges, new soft
packages and bin image are in flash switch.

The command that you provide I run at the end and on one switch remove all
apckages and bin image. On second switch remove only the old packeges.
