Faulty Sup720-3B - Can I hot swap in the replacement ?

Tac determined one of my SUP cards is faulty in my 6513e chassis.

My question is once I get the replacement sup, can i simply hot swap it into the chassis ?

Will it auto sync the config over or do I have to manually start that process ?

Once that is done, how do I make it the active SUP ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Yes, if you have two sups, you can hot swap.

The replacement sup won't become standby unless it already has the same IOS installed on it as you're currently running.

How do I copy the ios image over from the active Sup card?

That's a bit of a problem, one method copies IOS while the replacement card installed on another chassis.

Or, if your boot sequence uses the external CF, you can, I think, just install the needed IOS on the CF there.

I recall you can also load IOS when the card is inserted, if you have console access and card is running ROMMON.

Okay, the good news is I have a 6513 chassis in the lab...I'll use that to load up the image before messing around in prod.

Thanks everyone for the info :)

In addition to Joe's comments, if you want to make the new sup the active sup, you need too use this command:

redundancy force-switchover

This will force the new sup to become active:
