FEX 2348TQ-E QSFP uplink to Parent Switch 10G/40G Question

Hi All,

We have a FEX 2348TQ-E with 6 QSFP uplinks but, our parent switch a Nexus C7009 only has a single 1/10Gbps N7K-F348XP-25 module.

Can the FEX 2348TQ-E on the uplink QSFP ports be connected to its parent switch at 10Gbps instead of 40Gbps?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi,

Can the FEX 2348TQ-E on the uplink QSFP ports be connected to its parent switch at 10Gbps instead of 40Gbps?

Yes, you can. You just need a breakout cable:

Thanks for the info....I don't have a need to uplink the FEX to my parent switch at 40Gig and all devices that will be connecting to the FEX will be 100Mbps or 1Gig copper devices.

That being said do I still need a breakout cable? Is there a QSFP that will run at 10Gig instead of 40Gig?

I see there is a Cisco CVR-QSFP-SFP10G adapter

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/transceiver-modules/data_sheet_c78-660083.html

All of my infrastructure/LIU's are Single mode LC.

Will the FEX throttle down to 10Gig if used with this adapter?

Thanks,

Dan
