Hey,
I will be removing our FWSM from our 6506E and I have a question. Is there anything I should know about removing them... other than pushing the shutdown button and waiting a bit?

Hi:
SAVE THE CONFIG FIRST!
Back it up, too, by offloading it to a tftp server.
Make sure you do it during a maintenance window, obviously.
Make sure you are wearing a grounding strap and that it is connected securely to ground before you handle the module.
Thats about it for now...

In addition to Victor's post you can shut the module from the CLI on the switch and if you then do a "sh module" you can check when it has been shutdown properly.
Command to shut FWSM down from 6500 CLI
6500# hw-module module 7 shutdown
where 7 is the slot that the FWSM is installed in.
