hi all,

as we inherited a 4510 from the previous company i am trying to hard/factory reset it

i am trying to follow this guide but im getting stuck

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-4000-series-switches/21229-pswdrec-cat4000-supiii-21229.html

hard rebooted the switch while connected my laptop to the console port

pressed ctrl+c

#set

#confreg

pressed either "y" or "n" to all the lines it showed me

#reset

now im in the rommon mode

when i try to enter #enable its not letting me

******** The system will autoboot now ********

config-register = 0x2142
Autobooting using BOOT variable specified file.....

Could not find a valid file in BOOT environment variable.
BOOT variable can be set from IOS. To find currently set
Rom Monitor variables, please type 'set' command.

For help on choosing a boot method, type 'confreg' command.
rommon 1 >enable

monitor: command "enable" not found
rommon 2 >enable

any help would be much appreciated

cheers,

rob

Try set the switch to 2102 confreg the standard boot and run the boot statement
confreg 0x2102

boot bootflash:cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.07.01.E.152-3.E1.bin

If your re-imaging the switch you need to have same image on as the other supervisor

https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283289791/type/282046477/release/3.7.1E?i=!pp

3rd image down in the link

cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.07.01.E.152-3.E1.bin

my rommon commands hasnt got a copy command so i cant copy the new file over from usb to bootflash so i need to do it in mode 2142

finally i did a #confreg instead of a #confreg 0x2142 and its working by answering all the questions (really dont know why the #confreg 0x2142 wasnt working)

i have succesfully reset the password and now im going to upload the new firmware to the SUP

one question tho, the other SUP i tripped over the console cable and it bent the pins in the console port, anyway i can do it via IOS commands

lol, i cant believe this

so now when i boot back up in 2102 i still get a

username:

password:

i know i have changed the password but i dont have a clie what the username is?

one question tho, the other SUP i tripped over the console cable and it bent the pins in the console port, anyway i can do it via IOS commands

if there is at least one sup working up in the chassis and acessible you can copy the image from one sup to another without using console port

you use a command like below to do it , the slave bootflash is the standby sup

copy bootflash:cat4500es8-universalk9.SPA.03.08.07.E.152-4.E7.bin slavebootflash:

Mark,

i think this cisco 4510 is asking for network credentials as its asking for a username and password and its looking for a server to connect to so im pretty sure this is the case as it cant resolve to the username/password server ie LDAP/DC

is there a way to delete the username and password credentails now i can log into Ios?

cheers,

rob

If it cant get to tacacs/radius server to authenticate, it should fall back , is there local credentials set on the switch ?
if you dont have them the only way to get it back is through a password recovery

ok i did this and it has seemed to work

#erase nvram:

#config-register 0x2102

#copy run start

but now when it boots up it goes strainght into rommon mode and i need to type in

#boot

to get it going into Ios

obviously my Ios isnt corrupt as it boots into Ios, so i dont understand why this is happening

is the bootvar SET and saved when your on the switch ?

sh run | i boot
boot-start-marker
boot system flash bootflash:cat4500es8-universalk9.SPA.03.08.07.E.152-4.E7.bin
boot system flash bootflash:cat4500es8-universalk9.SPA.03.08.06.E.152-4.E6.bin

how do i set it up to auto boot from Ios please

cheers,

rob

add your image here below where mine is in global config then save it
then check with ----show bootvar -----

(conf t)
