Help with 1751-v router and wic-4esw configuration not saving

I have a 1751-v router and wic-4esw 4 ethernet port switch card.

I am trying to configure the card as a 4 port switch with a single ip address by vlan.

When configuring the Fastethernet interface, the terminal takes the following comands, but does not save them.

When I type:

conf t

int fa0/1

switchport mode access

switchport access vlan 1

exit

show run int fa0/1

I get the interface back with no configuration saved:

interface fastethernet 0/1
!

I am running the following release:

c1700-k9o3sv8y7-mz.124-25d

I am not getting any errors back, the card is properly detected in a show inventory, and I've tried a different firmware, a different router, and a different card.

The only configuration command that "sticks" is shutdown and no shutdown.

Does anybody know why my configuration is not being saved???

This is driving me crazy, please help.

Thanks,

Vittorio

I edited the message, to correct release version.

Hi,

The reason why you are not seeing these particular entries is because they are the defaults for the interface.

On Cisco, the default setting is generally not shown in the config.

When you change the port like this you will see a difference:

int fa0/1

  switchport access vlan 2

Leo

You are very right.

The switch interface was not working and I thought it was because the interface was not taking the configurations. The switch card was not working because I had not configured the vlan database.

Still not very sure what the vlan database is for.

The vlan 1 interface did in fact exist.
