Hi to all. I would like to ask the group if anyone knows or if had an experience about stacking 2 cisco switch 3750G .

My question is if i can to stack the 2 switches with the power up and running without having any problems to my network?

Hi

no, you can not.

if, for instance, you have one switch up and running and you want to add a second switch to the stack, the second switch has to be stacked with the power OFF. After the stack cables are conncted, then you power on the switch.

if you stack the second switch while powered on, its very likely that the switches will do a reload, then do a master election and you ll have downtime for approx 7 minutes.

I have many times before added a switch to a stack with the power ON for all switches. (Stacks of 8)

This is achievable with good planning and provisioning. As long as the IOS version/image is the same on all sets of switches and that they are compatible to run with each other, and that you provision a switch member ahead of time this will allow you to add a stack member without any downtime, but with a reduced backplane of 16gbps while you recable the stack cables.

Remember, the master election takes place at bootup of the stack

However, doing such a change in a production environment would not be advised. Please do this out of working hours.
