High Temp Cisco 3850

Hi All,

I'm having one of my 3850 switches reporting a high hotpot temperature -

Switch 2: SYSTEM TEMPERATURE is OK
Inlet Temperature Value: 28 Degree Celsius
Temperature State: GREEN
Yellow Threshold : 46 Degree Celsius
Red Threshold    : 60 Degree Celsius

Hotspot Temperature Value: 88 Degree Celsius
Temperature State: GREEN
Yellow Threshold : 105 Degree Celsius
Red Threshold    : 125 Degree Celsius

It is within the threshold which I understand, but I have over 100 other 3850's onsite here and they all are sitting around 40 degrees celsius.

The system temp is also pretty low at 28 degrees.

Also the switch fans on this 3850 are running harder and faster too, the same as when the switch first boots up.

Anyone have any ideas whats causing this? Is this an RMA?

It appears to be operating within normal boundaries, so I don't think I would do anything.

Is it running a similar software version compared to others reporting a much lower temperature?

Yeah all of the 3850's are running the same IOS version: 03.06.03E

Just found it weird that this was the only one out of the whole lot doing it, fans working extra hard etc

I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

If its sounding bit off I would keep an eye on it but you prob wont get an rma until it actually fails , as well there looks to be bugs relating to incorrect outputs so you may have triggered something just specific to that switch , change the ios just for that switch  you will know pretty quick if its just bug , im on same image in my 38s and have bugs for the power supply's showing there off but there not and its only on a couple of them the rest on same image are fine

Yeah looks like you're right I am hitting that bug. All good I'll just wait it out for the next upgrade to sort it out.

I am also having the power supply problem on the 3850's here. Always seems to affect power supply 1B in a stack.

Hopefully that gets sorted out soon too.
