How do I configure BFD

My service provider says that he has configured this at his end.

Tx 500ms multiplier 5

Rx 100ms multiplier 5

How do I configure the BFD at my end?

Should it be

bfd interval 500 min_rx 500 multiplier 5

It may be a different platform or vendor they use.  As long as it is configured on their side you should do the same on your side. The command you have below is correct. You can also check the status with "sh bfd summ" and "sh bfd summary session"

bfd interval 500 min_rx 500 multiplier 5

Thanks for the reply, on the other hand, I feel 500ms is a bit long interval. (5seconds)

Can I make it to 50ms and ask them to change the same on their end. Will it cause overhead on the network. Just want to know the best interval to be configured in production

We use this numbers on ASRs and the failover time is about 2 to 3 seconds with no overhead or CPU issue.

 bfd interval 300 min_rx 300 multiplier 3

Some service providers are more flexible than others (depending on the size of the company and the number of circuits you have with them), but you can always ask them to set it to this numbers and test.

500 ms is half a second, not 5 seconds. 5 seconds would be 5,000 ms.

I see this command - Rx 100ms multiplier 5 at their end, so should it be

bfd interval 100 min_rx 500 multiplier 5
