How does load balancing work if you have 2 routers?

Just working some theory through my head and I'm at a brick wall. Here's the sceneario:

1 segment with 2 routers. Each of the routers have a 10mbs WAN circuit to the same destination terminating on 2 routers.

Say there's a HSRP interface between the 2 routers in the same LAN segments.

How would load sharing across the two WAN links work?

for load sharing, implemet GLBP (gateway load balancing protocol) in lieu of HSRP. there are similarities in commands. for detailed infor google GLBP.

Thanks guys, I forgot about GLBP. I guess back before GLBP we used to have 2 default gateways on each segment 1 for each HSRP address and have the users split between them.

Yes, especially mHSRP, but you could also, with some routing protocols, start with one router and use the other path.  This might perform better than GLBP as GLBP ties to MACs and routing round robins on flows.

Another possible alternative might be OER/PfR.  OER/PfR also performs dynamic load balancing.
