When I try to telnet but get no reply, if I want to stop the session, is there any way for that? Ctrl+c is not working. Ctrl+shift 6 neither.

Thanks

If the CTRL-SHIFT+6+X combination doesn't work for you, you can try minimizing the wait with the command

ip tcp synwait-time

lower the wait-time to 5 seconds.

Hi,

If you are trying to telnet from a cisco router to a cisco router, then use the ctrl+shift+6 then release all and press x, and then type disconnect and press enter.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

This is by far the most helpful answer Ive ever gotten. I have been struggling with disconnecting from telnet sessions to other devices from a Cisco router terminal for the longest.

Thanks a lot!!

Worked!. complex combination. thank you

Try typing X after you have done the Ctrl+shift 6 combination. That should suspend the telnet that is in process. You can then type disconnect to terminate the telnet.

Thanks a lot for the answers.

However, the problem is if the telnet session is not up when the remote end is not responding, there seems no way to stop it, right?

Thanks this is the correct way to break the session and should have been the voted answer;)  "CTL+SHIT+6 release and then X"

the original answer did not work with  pressing all of the them as implied.

* further to add, you must also type exit when it returns you to the prompt to close the sessions

Thanks, all.

Old post but still valid, thanks to those who went before............
