HRSP, 6509 switch

If an access switch is only connected to one 6509 distribution switch that is running HSRP and the port goes down can  the access switch connected to that port down still find a way to foward packets accross the trunk link to the other distribution active switch or it wont be able to foward packets accross the other distribution switch at all?

Horacio,

If your access switch is using only a single physical link to the 6509 distribution switch, and this link goes down, then the access switch will be totally cut off the network. You need to have multiple physical links connecting the access switch to the distribution layer to be able to maintain connectivity.

HSRP is not about providing resiliency between switches. HSRP provides gateway redundancy for IP-speaking stations only, and is not concerned about finding alternate switched paths in a network.

Best regards,

Peter
