Hello all ,

Can anyone suggest , where to use FHRP - HSRP in the Cisco Three Layer Hierarchical Model. Presently i do not have any redundancy in Core layer as well as distribution layer. Kindly suggest possible solutions.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Is good to do hsrp configuration in the distribution layer where are your vlan gateways, you have to change the gateway to the virtual hsrp ip address, and configure the SVIs with others IP address in the same interface as the virtual. Which devices are you using in your distribution layer?

Best Regards,

Thanks Diana , I have around 16 Distribution layer switches, each distribution switch will have around 60 SVI's. It would be helpful if you share any sample topology.

Hello,

Attached is and example from one hierarchical network high redundancy design.

Best Regards,

Thanks, tomorrow i will share the appropriate topology where i need the redundancy.

Hai Diana, i have created a sample topology and configured HSRP between Distribution layer and access layer switches. Kindly suggest , is it the best practice to follow?. If yes , how may Virtual gateways supported by HSRP?

Hai , I am using Cisco Catalyst 3850 as a distribution switch.

Depends on whether your access layer is L2 or L3? As you use a FHRP where access multiple gateways reside, for a L2 access it would be on your distribution devices, for a L3 access it would be on your access devices, although also for the latter, it's more likely an L3 access device would support some other form of gateway redundancy (e.g. a L3 access stack of switches,VSS).

Thanks. I would like to implement in the distribution layer.

That's fine - again, assuming your access layer is L2.
