Hi all, I have seen a router today running hsrp, they both have 2 ethernet interfaces, I have noticed that the routers are plugged directly together on one of the intefaces, why is this, I thought you can just plug both of them in the lan for hsrp ?

Do you mean the 2 ethernet interfaces were connected via a cross-over cable?

if they have a link between the two routers directly. so they don't need track the uplink interface. I think it's a safer way and good practice since they have two ethernet interface on each box.
