While configuring the switch and attempting to assign the Cisco Ethernet/IP macro to a port I get the following:
Error: Cisco Ethernetip port role is applied to one or more ports, but Recommended System Setup is disabled. <Screenshot attached>
From the web interface, there is a recommended system setup checkbox on the tab. I've tried checking it and submitting, checking-choosing port roles-submitting, and multiple other gyrations.
If I use Cisco Network Assistant, I get a dialog: Warning: Smartports The global macros were only partially applied. Choose Configure>Smartports>Device Setup on the feature bar to apply the global macros to the device. <Screenshot attached>
Same story, I try doing what it says and I get the same persistent error.
From the CLI (which I not an expert with) it appears to me that the correct global macros are applied and each interface has the cisco-ethernetip macro applied. <screenshot attached>
So I assume that everything is actually set up as I want, but the fact that I keep getting those warnings/errors bothers me. Like I still have a problem hanging.

So, no one ever answered this, but I solved my own problem. The product I purchased only included the Lan Lite license level. The Lan Base level is required to use the macros.
