invalid IEEE class: 7 device. Power denied

Hi Team,

I have these probelm in my cisco WS-C3560-48PS, in all the ports we have connected IP phones and i see these logs in the switch.

3y26w: %ILPOWER-5-INVALID_IEEE_CLASS: Interface Fa0/13: has detected invalid IEEE class: 7 device. Power denied
3y26w: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Fa0/13: Power Device detected: IEEE PD

this is the commaon config in all the switchports

What kind of IP Phones are they and what is the IOS of your switch? 

 

3 years uptime so I'm suspecting some very, very old IOS.

Switch is WS-C3560-48PS and IOS -  Version 12.2(25)SEE2

IP Phone types

Cisco7911

Cisco7912

Cisco7941

Cisco7942

Cisco7961

Cisco7970

 

One more strange thing is that even if nothing is connected on the switchport i see the LED blinking in amber color.

I have tried rebooting the switch and that didn’t help and I also tried connecting the switch to other external power source still no luck, having same issue.

Only some 30 ports are working out of 48 ports.

All other phones are not getting power from the switch and thos will be like shutdown state.

Not going to be easy. 

 

3560 is a FastEthernet model and this specific model does NOT support TDR.  If you have a 3750G or a 3560G (or anything newer) and you'll be able to test the cable for any faults.

I would get the IOS updated as a first step, the latest one is 12.2(55)SE10.

Can you do a #show power inline and post the results for us?
