Is it possible to remame a VDC on a Nexus 7000?

Hi

Is it possible to rename a VDC once it has been created on a Nexus 7000? Additionally is there a link between the VDC name and the hostname assigned to the VDC? If there is a link are there any implications associated with changing either the VDC name or the hostname?

Thanks in advance

Malcolm

Yes you can rename a VDC once it has been created. The VDC name is directly associated with the hostname that is assigned to the VDC. By changing the hostname in the VDC it should change the name of the VDC statement in the default VDC as well.

I just did that and it worked perfectly....thank you

nice one jerry

Can you clarify me, if I change hostnames on vdcs, will I have any service disruption?

or it's completely transparent?

@Dabnolilla,

question:- Can you clarify me, if I change hostnames on vdcs, will I have any service disruption?

AnsweR:- NO not at all. There will not be any service disruption when you change the hostname on VDC.

Hi Inayath,

Thanks for your answer, in case I want to change not only the hostname but also the VDC name, it surely causes a disruption.

Changing the hostname = VDC name.

Example:-

Nexus7010# show vdc

vdc_id  vdc_name                          state               mac
  type        lc
------  --------                          -----               ----------
  ---------   ------

1       Nexus7010                   active

2       F1-FPP                            active

Now I will change the VDC 2 from F!-FPP to F1-FP( Which means that hte hostname and VDC name will be change with only one command:-

Nexus7010-F1-FPP(config)# hostname F1-FP
Nexus7010-F1-FP(config)# end  >>> Now yu can see that hostname has been changed to F1-FP.

Lets check the show vdc:-

Nexus7010# show vdc

2       F1-FP  active >>>>> you can see VDC name has been changed there is no seperate command for the same.

Thank you for the commands. I also need one last suggestion.
Below is the id and the name of the VDC that's been created.
Is there a way we can change the VDCcore1 id as 4 and VDC 70-01 id as 2
vdc_id vdc_name state
------ -------- -----
1 admin1 active
2 core1 active
3 agg1 active
4 70-01 active
5 70 active
6 -70 active
7 agg active

I have same issue, where I need to change the VDC ID and what is the command to do that if possible.  can someone assist with this ?
