ISSU upgrade Cat65K on 12.2(33)SXH7 to the 12.2(33)SXI train

Hi,

I have a pair of Catalyst 6509-E switches with dual sup 720-10GE currently running the 12.2(33)SXH7 firmware.

I would like to upgrade them to 12.2(33)SXJ6.

I have fund the SX SY EFSU Compatibility Matrix mentioned on the release notes (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/release/notes/ol_14271.html)

There is explained the upgrade path from SXI onward. What I'm a bit unceration of is the path away from SXH7.

From the cronical list of releases in the release notes i figure the step would be to SXI4 since that is next release in the list:

--

09 Jun 2010—Release 12.2(33)SXI4

15 Mar 2010—Release 12.2(33)SXH7

--

That would give me the path

SXH7 -> SXI4 -> SXI6 -> SXI10 -> SXJ6

Is that correct?

Best regards

/Mattias

Mattias.

Cisco IOS Rel ease 12.2(33)SXH supports a fast software upgrade (FSU), The fast software upgrade (FSU) procedure supported by RPR allows you to upgrade the Cisco IOS image on the supervisor engines without reloading the system.

You can't issu upgrade from SXH7 to SXI4. That has to be RPR FSU. (There is going to be a down time, so you will need to schedule a maintenance window)

This is the procedure:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/redund.html#wpxref62923

Once in SXI4 you can run ISSU.

The path would be

SXI4 --> SXI6 -->SXI10 -->SXJ6

Hi Wilson,

Thank you very much for your reply.

That explains also why H->I is not covered in the eFSU matrix.
