Issues with deploying 6880-X in VSS Mode

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to query the support community to see if folks are encountering issues in deploying the 6880-X in VSS mode.  We first looked at this soluition when it was running 15.1(2) SY2 as the recommened GA code.  We ran into several issues:

1) VSL Link Timeout - Workaround:modify LMP timer or upgrade to 15.1(2)SY4

2) Port-member goes into suspendstate when using 1000BASE-SX - shut/no shut suspended interface

We ran into this and some other issues even with the eFSU upgrade process.  So my question is have you run into similiar difficulties in running the 6880 in VSS mode.  Did you go ahead and deploy?  If so did you deploy with 15.1(2)SY4 (new Cisco GA code) or did you live with the state you are in?
Were there ways that you mitigated these issues?

Thanks,

Patnaik

Hello friend,

Coudl you please share with us more information about the errors you are facing with?

It could help if you can post the logs seen so we can have more details and the best solution for the issue.

At this moment, I can tell you tha VSL Link Timeout issue is fixed in 15.1(2)SY4 -> CSCup99867 bug

The 15.1(2) SY2 version is not fixed, this is why you are getting timeout errors. About the others, please share more details.

Best Regards,  :D

Hi Lenperez,

I am now running 15.1(2)SY4.  In our lab environment we are running GLT-C 1GE optics.  When I perform a redundancy force-switchover or power cycle the active switch (aka control-plane switch) I see the following error in the logs.

Jan 14 15:53:46 est: %EC-SW1_STBY-5-CANNOT_BUNDLE2: Te2/5/14 is not compatible with Te1/3/14 and will be suspended (speed of Te2/5/14 is 1000M, Te1/3/14 is 10G)

As you can see switch 1's optic is being recognized as a 10GE interface.  The LACP bundle won't come up with two different bandwidth speeds.  It seems to be an negotiation issue.

In our production trial, we saw a similar issue using 1000BASE-SX (GLC-SX-MM) fibre optics.  The port comes up in suspended mode.  This time there is no indication of speed mismatch.  We needed to shut/no shut the suspended member or shut/no shut the port-channel.

Some of the other issues I have run into are the IA - instant access upgrades. A fix is now there but you need a minimum combination of EX6 microcode and SY3 or SY4.

There seems to be too many small issues.  Just wondering what your thoughts are on the product line.

Cheers,

R

Hi,

Can you post the config for interfaces Te2/5/14 and Te1/3/14?

Also, can you post the Portchannel config?

HTH

Hi Reza,

Here you go.  Just so you know I resolved the suspended port-member by OIR the optic that was displayed as a 10G interface.
