Hello,
I am currently doing a switch upgrade from a 4K to a 9K, the 4K is currently live, it's a straight swap so the config on the 4K have just been copied onto the 9K, my question is how do i keep the host-names the same on the 9K? would i just take down the 4K and then have the 9K's plugged in(assuming i have configured the switch to have the same host name?) or do i use a separate host-name and then when the new 9K is live change the hostname?
Also would have any ideas on an implementation plan?
Thanks

- Keeping host names is not advisable. New names have benefit to avoid confusing for ICT-staff (service desk -e.g.) and asset-management.

Hi,
Since these two devices will not be in the network, connected, at the same time (have the same config and one is a replacement for the other), you should just keep the same name. As a second point of view, most customers have naming convention of their devices, which is kept unless otherwise instructed; so you should keep the name.

Cristian Matei.
