Latest Upgrade IOS for WS-X45-SUP6-E

Hi ,

I have been planning an IOS upgrade to my core switches - Both are 4500 chassis with WS-X45-SUP6-E .

Currently i am running ROM: 12.2(44r)SG10

It seems 12.2(53) has gone "End of Vulnerability/Security support" and the replacement part code is 15.0(2)SG5.

Can i go ahead and upgrade my SUPs  to 15.X ?    Is there anything else  that i am missing ?

Just wanted to confirm with you guys before updating .

Thanks,

Rahul Nair.

Hi Rahul,

As per the release notes for the target firmware:

Note You must upgrade to at leaset ROMMON Release 12.2(44r)SG5 to run Cisco IOS Release 15.0(2)SG on the Supervisor Engine 6-E and Supervisor Engine 6L-E. 12.2(44r)SG9 is recommended.

Caution Most supervisor engines have the required ROMMON release. However, due to caveat CSCed25996, we recommend that you upgrade your ROMMON to the recommended release.

So, it should be okay, more details here

Only your edge/spoke devices should be set as stub if that's all that's available  , core/hub should be using full eigrp

see this doc explains it well, on how it works exactly

You can jump from 12 to 15 if you want no problem just make sure you have enough space for your image and ram etc

Thanks Manish and Mark .

Another thing that i noticed in the release notes , is the the IP base image does not support EIGRP  but only EIGRP STUB .

I am running EIGRP on my COREs currently to distribute routes between my WAN routers and Core switches .

Is the EIGRP STUB enough to get this done ?
