I have a training class coming into one of my centers and they require additional users for a single room. I have been instructed to plug an off the shelf Dlink 16 port desktop switch into the onsite Cisco 3560 switch. Can this simply be done by shutting off port security and plugging into the switch or will i need to trunk a port and plug the dlink into that port? Thanks.

Hi Tyrone,
We dont know your detailed setup.
So lets say the the class with the d-link is to use vlan 100
So on your on your 3560 set up an interface just to allow traffic to vlan 100.
!
int f0/20
shut
desc *** LINK TO D-LINK ***
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 100
switchport port-security
switchport port-security max 20
switchport port-security violation shut
no shut
!
This will set the link to vlan 100
Only allow up to 20 MAC adds from the d-link
Automatically SHUTDOWN the port if more than 20 MACs appear
Also find the info/manual for the correct d-link
something like this
Its your network so make sure you control what is or what is not allowed.
Hope this helps
Regards,
Alex.
