With links flapping like that I'd look at the physical first, my best guess would be a transceiver (SFP or GBIC) in my experience if its fiber its completely broke

but actually after some time i also observed the following logs on my 6509 switch :

Switch-6509#

2009 Dec 07 09:57:01 CST -06:00 %ETHC-5-PORTFROMSTP:Port 7/6 left bridge port 7/6

2009 Dec 07 09:57:03 CST -06:00 %ETHC-5-PORTFROMSTP:Port 6/21 left bridge port 6/21
2009 Dec 07 09:57:24 CST -06:00 %ETHC-5-PORTTOSTP:Port 6/21 joined bridge port 6/21
2009 Dec 07 09:57:29 CST -06:00 %ETHC-5-PORTFROMSTP:Port 6/21 left bridge port 6/21

I am not able to find out what exactly is going on.

Since their are no other error messages I would still stick with proving nothing physical is going here.

Do the ports that are having problems go to the same closet or have fiber within the same path? Is anyone doing building work in the area (aka are people moving the cables around without you knowing?)

Do the devices connected to these ports have any errors?

One switch(say x) that was connected to port 2/3 gone down for some time. Then

it was brought up when the person at the remte site changed the connection of x to 6509-switch i.e to

2/3 from gi0/1 to gi0/2. now the x switch is working fine and also no anomalies are there. But i am getting some logs on the 6509-switch again after some time.

I think device which are connected to port number 7/6 and 6/21 are getting flapped and the switch generates %ETHC-5-PORTTOSTP syslog message, whenever a link is detected on a switch port and the %ETHC-5-PORTFROMSTP syslog message can

occur whenever a link is lost on a switch port.
These syslogs are normal informational messages that indicate that a port was removed
from or added to the spanning tree. Note that channeling does not have to be enabled
in order for these messages to be generated.
A high number of these messages is an indication that a port loses a link due to
a mis-configuration or a connection issue.

Hope this solves your query about the error logs

Thanks to you all...

That solves my query.  :-).
