Low memory I/O on 2960s

Hello all,

we recently installed cisco PI 1.3 and on the "Top N Memory Utilization" dashboard I am seeing that many of our 2960s switches have high memory I/O.

Most of them are running

c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3

c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin

c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE5

I am not seeing any weird behavior yet (failing ssh sessions etc), but I found many posts about high memory utilization on 2960 switches.

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11283871/12258se2-2960-cause-memory-leaks

The bug CSCts52797 only applies to IOS 12.2(58)SE. What is wrong with the other switches? What can I check? Since PI 1.3 has many other problems, I do not know if what I am seeing is correct (probably an IOS bug) or faulty PI behavior.

Please advise!!!

Thank you in advance,

Katerina

Same here. My PI 2.1 says my top mem-usage devices are the 2960S, all of them on I/O.

But I suspect the thing is normal - some sort of preallocation, and https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11327186/high-io-memory-utilization-2960 seems to support this idea.

My switches are all on 12.2(58)SE2 which is the highest IOS 12 release; however 12.2(55)SE9 being far more recent (mrach 2014) is probably our best bet.

If I were in you, I wouldn't keep 12.2(55)SE3 anyway - better go and upgrade to SE9 while you aren't in production yet.

Hi Paolo,

I upgraded the IOS on a switch to c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE9. Same issue! High I/O memory utilization (83%). So downgrade or upgrade????

The cisco site suggests 15.0.2-SE6. I will try that and see...

Upgraded to c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE6.

Same thing. I/O memory utilization 83%. So I come to understand that this is normal behavior...(?)

I am open to suggestions...

Thanks in advance,

Katerina

Hi.Katerina

I also have this problem, High I/O memory .

the switch is WS-C2960S-48TS-L,and old version 12.2-55 SE7,then upgrade to c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE6.

all of two versions is  High I/O memory.

Hi, i opened tac case and they said this is normal behaviour... So there is nothing else to do!
