hi all,

i have port ranges te1/0/1-2 in port-channel 1 but when i look at the individual ports by doing a #sh int status i can see "mdix mode" one is on and one is off

do they both need to be set to the same ie on or off or doesnt it matter?

many thanks,

rob

cheers,

rob

Hi,

Are you facing any issue with Port-Channel? A port-channel will not check MDIX mode but it is mandatory that all members must work on the same speed and duplex.

Hi
usually on by default in newer switches , wont make a difference really once your using same cables like straight through if copper , if its fibre or twinax as its 10GB wont make any difference

basically this switch is connected to another switch via 2x1gig rj45 ethernets which i have made both sides into LACP (as you can see below)

switch A i am using the 10gig ports instead of the 1gig ports, will this make a difference?

switch A

te1/0/1 10G-Combo-C Full 1000 Enabled Off Up Disabled On
te1/0/2 10G-Combo-C Full 1000 Enabled Off Up Disabled Off

Po1 10G Full 1000 Enabled Off Up

switch B

Gi2/1 connected trunk a-full a-1000 10/100/1000-TX
Gi2/2 connected trunk a-full a-1000 10/100/1000-TX

Po2 connected trunk a-full a-1000

Hi,

The port-channel will never be performed because it is required at the same speed and duplex settings.

"Configure all LAN ports in an EtherChannel to operate at the same speed and in the same duplex mode".

The compatibility check includes the following operational attributes:

  • Network layer
  • (Link) speed capability
  • Speed configuration
  • Duplex capability
  • Duplex configuration
  • Port mode
  • Access VLAN
  • Trunk native VLAN
  • Tagged or untagged
  • Allowed VLAN list
  • MTU size
  • SPAN—cannot be a SPAN source or a destination port
  • Layer 3 ports—cannot have subinterfaces
  • Storm control
  • Flow-control capability
  • Flow-control configuration

All may change as per the hardware model and version.
