Migration from 3750 to 550x

Hi,  my customer is replacing a pair of 3750 core switches with sx550x-16ft switches.

we want the config to be as close as possible to today’s config, are there any automatic config converters available please?  If not automatic, any idea how to manually do this.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @timdeadman1 ,

are you using the Cisco 3750 as L2 or as L3 switch ?

Are multiple SVI interface Vlan X defined and operational ?

is the command ip routing present ?

If so you will have three types of interfaces:

logical VLAN interfaces : L3 interfaces they are up /up only if at least one L2 switchport is up/uP and in STP forwarding state.

physical interfaces:    L3 routed interface or L2 switchport access port or L2 trunk port.

The L3 routed port is actually emulated using an internal VLAN and associated SVI ( L3 VLAN logical interface)

The L2 access port is a port in a single data VLAN.

Modern switches support to define also a voice VLAN in that case the access port is a mini trunk.

For this enabling LLDP MED is highly recommended so that VOIP phones can be detected if present.

The L2 trunk port carries multiple VLANs (by default all defined VLANs are allowed)

The Cisco switches default to PVST+ or Rapid PVST.  In the SMB series the default is single instance Rapid STP.

The most critical  part is if you need to connect these new switches to Cisco switches as they have multiple STP instances.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi

They are pretty different models.  3750 was meant to be configured using CLI but the newer sx550x is meant to be configured using gui. A lot of command as different.

The attached guide have the cli command for sx550x

Thanks Flavio,

It's a factually correct answer, however doesn't really help me.  I have a config wriiten in CLI for IOS, I need a conversion tool or someone who can say "Just do X, Y and Z"

But it should help you because in the absence of an automatic conversion tool that is exactly what you will have to do ie. whatever the 3750 switch is doing find the equivalent command for the new switch.

No one can say just do this or that without knowing what the 3750 is doing currently.
